We Are Finding Freedom is an engaging and compassionate community coming together to take bigger risks for racial justice. Together, we support each other to understand how we as white women and genderqueers are complicit with white supremacy and patriarchy.
The founders, Kari Points and Evangeline Weiss, have spent more than 40 years combined as white queer people working with communities, individuals and organizations that center racial, gender and economic justice.
For many decades, leaders of color--including James Baldwin, Malcolm X, and Alicia Garza--have asked white people to step up and to work on dismantling white supremacy within our own communities. Black and Latinx feminists--including the Combahee River Collective and Charlene Carruthers--have called on white feminists to explore our own role in upholding white supremacy and patriarchy, and show up better in feminist organizing.
This community heeds those calls. We follow in the footsteps of white anti-racist organizers Prudence Crandall, Anne Braden and Mab Segrest.
A workshop that aims to deepen our individual and collective understanding of how we as white women and gender-expansive people are complicit with white supremacy, how we can make changes to live more deeply and consistently into our racial justice commitments, and how we can move ourselves and other people in our networks to join the fight for racial, economic and gender justice right now.
